Day 5 - C.K.S Memorial Hall
(16 June 2012)
After much discussion over ice-cream, we decided to just go ahead with the itinerary despite the rain...
Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall is just a 5 - 10 minutes walk from the metro station with the same name...
Bronze sculpture at the entrance - Dance of Time II
Bronze sculpture of Mr Chiang Kai Shek
A drawing of Chiang Kai Shek and Sun Yat Sen
6.1m long, 2m wide and 1.63m tall... one of his bullet proof cars of which this has only been seat in once.... it was a donation from the Chinese in Philippines.... such a waste of resources.... =S
- "Unto A Full Growth Man".... |
It was an encouragement from Sun Yat Sen to Chiang Kai Shek ... hmmmm..... so profound.... dun understand how is it an encouragement... hmmm....
There were many pictures of Chiang Kai Shek on display but what really caught my eyes were these 2 carvings below....
It's an ivory carving of Chiang Kai Shek and the 13 chapters of 孙子兵法 (Sun Tzu's Art of War)
can't see the carving for 孙子兵法 right???? heee.... it actually forms the rectangle above Chiang Kai Shek's pix.... now u know why there's a magnifying glass liao right???
another ivory carving
the enlarged version
zooming in on his head
zooming in on his eye
the pic is actually made up of words that state Sun Yat Sen's will and the Guidelines of National Reconstruction
listening to one of Chiang Kai Shek's speech
this was the speech we were listening to.... very strong accent ... =P
a wax figure of Chiang Kai Shek in his office
Spent 2 hours reading online about Sun Yat Sen & Wife, Chiang Kai Shek & wife, and Mao Ze Dong..... China's history really involved a lot of people wanting to be in power and the death of a lot of people.... =S ...
and i bet history textbooks will leave out all the 'ugly' info and focused only on these leaders' achievement and contributions..... why do i say this??? cos i overheard some Chinese tourists' commenting that the info gathered from the write-up at this memorial hall is totally different from those stated in their textbooks.....
Really thanks to internet for 'opening' our eyes.... =P
Just wondering.... will Singapore have a Memorial Hall and mrt station named after an important someone in future too???
i dun know why this photo cannot be rotated like the rest.... =( ... they are actually postcards which can be made into mini stuff toy... NT$40 (S$1.70) each.... will be keeping the panda one for Mr Ang since he is so in love with the 2 pandas in the taipei zoo and keeping the penguin one for myself..... the love between penguins is always special for both of us.... =D
National Theatre and Concert Hall just next to Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall...
Back to ximending for dinner....walk walk walk and chanced upon this food stall which became our favourite eating place for the trip..... heeee..... it's a must to eat here once a day for the remaining days in taipei.... upon 洪妈妈's request.... =D
our all time favourite...滷肉饭 with 荷包蛋...
their fried carrot cake is super crispy and the sauce sweet sweet de.... 吃起来是超幸福的.... hahahaha.....
the 滷肉面 with 荷包蛋 also super yum yum.... basically, everything here is super YUMZ!
